Thrift Store Find: 7 Ring Desk Size Binder

*Long post, picture heavy post*

I found this delight at my local thrift store for $1.00. It is a 7 ring format, just like Franklin Covey and Day-Timer. There are a ton of inserts in it, but the dates range from September to December 1992. This calendar format matches up with the year 2015.

  • 1 vinyl pen loop
  • Made in U.S.A.
  • Good rings, no gaps

Other thoughts:

  • This could be used as an archival binder.
  • There is no closing mechanism, no snap, no Velcro, nothing.
  • The cover is cushy and squishable.
  • The binder is in excellent condition.
  • Ring measure 1 inch.

I shared the inserts with my mom, and don’t honestly know what I’m going to do with all of this stuff. The inserts will get used one way or another. Not sure about the binder. For $1.00 I couldn’t pass it up.

I love it!!! I have been thinking about getting “organized” and needed a calendar… Its funny how things were so different 20 years ago, that you could put your bank info in something like that without a second thought

    • caendicott says:

I know, right! I had a good laugh at those pages. They would still be useful, but I wouldn’t keep them in my planner. Maybe my safe with all my other important information.

  2. Mary Hill says:

Congrats on a great find. I hope you can use it and update the calendar portion.

  3. Bianca says:

I’m using some of the pages, and have given some to my mom who has the same style planner. Don’t know what I’m going to do with the binder though.

  4. Now THAT is a fantastic find! Someone paid a pretty penny for it originally, that’s for sure!

    • caendicott says:

Based of some of the personal information that was in it (I’ve shredded those pages), it belonged to an octogenarian in 1992. And I’m sure it ended up at the thrift store because no one in her family wanted it. They should have looked through it better.

I’ve never thought about going to the thrift store for these types of things. It’s amazing what you can find there. Thanks for sharing!

    • caendicott says:

It never occurred to me either really, until my in-laws found a brand new Franklin Covey 365 for $1.99 at their thrift store. Now when the little voice in my head tells me to go to the thrift store I listen, I usually find a great deal on one.

  12. angie Scheie says:

wow. usually when you find planners like that, the inserts are incomplete. Congrats on the find!

    • caendicott says:

For me, I couldn’t believe the price with all those inserts in it. Even if the calendar was out of date, everything else was still useful.
